Why not just ZIP the server folder?

Basic archive scripts can create backups, but PaperVault is aimed at the recovery side of the problem: verifying file integrity before you trust an archive and making restore behavior deliberately guarded. That is useful before plugin upgrades, Paper/Purpur updates, migrations, configuration changes or emergency recovery.

Important limitations

External SQL databases are not included in filesystem snapshots and need their own dump process.
Files written by third-party processes can still change during a backup.
Symlinks are skipped intentionally.
For disaster recovery, keep copies off the same VPS or disk as the Minecraft server.
This is a command-line admin utility, not an in-game backup GUI plugin or managed hosting service.

Does PaperVault stop my Minecraft server?
No. The optional RCON workflow can temporarily disable saves, flush world data, perform the backup and re-enable saves. You control whether RCON is used.

Can I verify a backup before restoring it?
Yes. Verification is a first-class command and restore refuses archives that fail the expected integrity checks.

Does it back up MySQL or MariaDB?
No. Databases outside the server filesystem require a separate database dump strategy.
